We foray into the world of meditation by connecting to the breath. This taps into the Vagus nerve, shifting one from the sympathetic nervous system to the parasympathetic nervous system.
Breathing exercises (pranayama or cardiac coherence) such as,
* the Bee breath - (Bhramari pranayam which helps with an excessively talkative mind)
* Alternate Nostril Breathing - (Anulom/Vilom or Nadi Shodhana) with and without retention
* Other Different Breathing Techniques
are additional methods that one can use to calm the mind.
When we are relaxed, we are able to observe our thoughts, notice sensations, remain unattached (not detached) from emotions and find our inner harmony.
